SBS Products in a Multi-User Network Environment

There are 2 strategies for running SBS products in a multi-user environment:

Case 1: all users in the multi-user network have local copies of Microsoft Access 2003 or 2007 installed.

Case 2: users in the multi-user network do not have Microsoft Access 2003 or 2007 (may have either an older version or no Access installed locally)

In both cases, the “.mde” file must reside on the network server or on a shared drive with the appropriate users given read / write permissions.  See also What should I download?

Access Runtime Information Notes

The Microsoft Office Access 2003 run-time environment is the default file association for Microsoft Access Databases (.mdb) and for Microsoft Access Projects (.adp)

When you use Microsoft Windows Explorer or when you use a shortcut to open a Microsoft Access database file or to open an Access database project file that was created in Microsoft Access 2002 or in an earlier version, the file opens in the newly-installed Microsoft Office Access 2003 run-time environment. This behavior occurs after you install a run-time version of Microsoft Office Access 2003 on a computer that has Microsoft Access 2002 or an earlier version installed.

To work around this problem use the following method:

  1. Start the appropriate version of Access.
For example, If Access 2002 is installed on your computer and you intend to open an Access 2002 database, start Access 2002.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. In the Open dialog box, click the appropriate Access database project file or click the appropriate Access database file, and then click Open.

The Access file opens by using the Access version that you started in step 1.

How can I run SBS products and still run older databases?

Older databases, created in earlier versions of Microsoft Access, will run using the 2003 runtime version, however, you cannot modify forms, queries or reports.

It is best to modify the shortcut to the SBS product to ensure the 2003 runtime version is always used.  See this technical note for details.

Are SQL versions available?

Yes, SQL versions are available for users with greater security requirements.  Microsoft SQL is used as the back-end and Microsoft Access is used as the front end.  This configuration give users even greater data integrity, flexibility, security, and back-up capability.  Contact us for further details.

Will the products run if I have Access 2007 installed?

Yes, the products will run in Microsoft Access 2007.  You must ensure your software is up to date and use the proper security settings (see Readme First.pdf - included in the download).  Do not install the Full Demo download if you have Access 2007, download the Database Only file.

How can I download and install a free runtime version of Microsoft Access 2007?

How to Purchase

Simply click on a "Purchase" or "Buy" link from the respective web page and you will be taken to a secure payment service to complete your transaction.  A credit card or PayPal account is required for standard purchase, however, other payment options are available.

How does licensing work?

You may purchase a single or multiple user license. A multiple user license limits how many users may use the software at the same time. Any computer with the proper version of Microsoft Access (or the runtime version included for free with the download) installed may run the program, but only a limited number of computers may run the program at the same time.

Secure Purchases

Your personal data is used for order processing and is required to successfully complete your order. The entire order process is protected via a secure SSL connection. A third party service handles order and payment processing on behalf of SBS. The third party service will transfer all of the information you entered only to SBS; this information will not be shared with other parties.

All of the data entered on this page is encrypted using the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol and transmitted to the recipient via a secure connection. The data can only be read once it is received. In this way, important information such as credit card numbers, addresses, etc. can be sent to the recipient securely via the Internet. In Netscape, you can tell that SSL is activated if you see a closed padlock in the lower left corner of the browser window. In Internet Explorer, the padlock icon is located at the lower right in the status bar of the browser window.

The third party's server security certificate was issued by VeriSign Inc.. The server supports SSL Version 3 and 168/112-bit Triple DES encryption. All online shoppers who nonetheless feel uncomfortable using their credit cards online can use the fax form at the end of the order page to place orders.
